restricted ability to maneuver - Where to purchase stackable mast light?!?

hello All,

I can't for the life of me find a solution to put the Red-white-red all around mast light stack on top of my mast per 72 COLREGS Rule 27.

Ideally i'd like to have Red-white-red all around for diving operations, and just run the white all around for anchoring.

Can anyone help me out?

thanks

-Ben

There is no requirement for the lights to be at the top of your mast.

They do need to be “in a vertical line where they can best be seen”.

And able to be seen over 360 degrees.

Side & stern lights designed for deck level installation work OK if you place pairs each side of the mast.

If correctly built, they would not have the required arc so that a pair of lights covered the entire 360 degrees. I suppose you could use three.

You could wire three separate lights with three separate switches and use the ones you need when you need them. What's the problem?

most boats used something like this

an easier - but temporary - solution would be to haul a set of LED lights up on a halyard...tied off to the bow to keep away from the mast

cheers,

Re: restricted ability to maneuver - Where to purchase stackable mast light?!?

You can't do it in one fixture (unless it was quite tall) because the lights would blend into each other. You need to build something like chrisr posted.

Aquasignal sells inexpensive all around lights (commonly used as anchor lights) with different colored lenses. You would need 6 of them, because the pole would obstruct visibility to a single light.

Re: restricted ability to maneuver - Where to purchase stackable mast light?!?

Alright well instead of riggingup 6 lights, here is what i've decided to try:

https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...le/6177/14026/

I ordered a red light one, and then two white modules and another red module.

My plan is to try red-white-red and see what it looks like. if they blend too much then i'll do red-white-white-red and mask off some of the white on top and bottom to get better separation of the beams. My plan is to first just use the L-bracket and put a couple large hose clamps to clamp it to the top of my main mast if i can find room or my mizzen mast and see how it looks at night.

I don't expect to do night diving a TON on my trip coming up but i wanted to have this just incase we do some.

i'll post pics when i figure it out

Do not meet the requirements!

When the Rules prescribe two or three lights to be carried in a vertical line, they shall be spaced as follows:
...
(ii) on a vessel of less than 20 metres in length such lights shall be spaced not less than 1 metre apart and the lowest of these lights shall, except where a towing light is required, be placed at a height of not less than 2 metres above the gunwale;
