SPAM

Didn't know where to post this. Haven't signed in here for several months. When I did, and got a few notices in my email of responses my spam count went from 2-3 every few weeks to 19 this week.
Anyone else have the same problem?

Re: SPAM

It has more to do with your brower's security/privacy settings than CF visits. Get those checked and adjusted for more filtering and you should see the spam diminish considerably.

Also might want to stay away from google search and instead install a more secure search engine aas your primary search vehicle.

Re: SPAM

Only receive emails from CF of the daily summary of posts and then any replies to threads that I have posted to. Simple to unsubscribe to any and all threads if you don't wish to follow those threads just unsubscribe at the bottom part of the reply notice email.

As to Spam, here is a useful and enjoyable reference link: https://www.spam.com/

Actually, Spam (the canned kind) is the source of the term Spam (the e-mail or phone kind.) It's from the Monty Python "Vikings" skit where the Vikings incessantly chant "Spam Spam Spam Spam." It was repetitive and annoying, just like the e-mails, so the name stuck.

Some people don't realize this and think it's an acronym. Nope. You can use mixed case, no need to do all-caps.

As for canned Spam, it never seems to get much use when I'm cruising. Sure, I bring some. I do love it for breakfast, fried up on a cast iron skillet on the grill, but most mornings I go for something easier.

As for coming from this forum, no. That must have been a coincidence. I have one clever Spam e-mail sender who always makes it around my filters. I used to get two every day. Now it's suddenly up to six or eight. Perhaps you got on their list somehow. I did finally figure out a way to filter theirs, and so far it's about 90% effective.

Good to hear, I thought selling valid user email was at the heart of every forum business model (in addition to advertising, needless to say)

Re: SPAM

Odd. the only change was a few response notices from here. Use a VPN and am pretty careful. Not exactly dumb about security. It's also an old email I rarely use hence my concern.

I use my "real" e-mail address here, and don't get much Spam at all. There are some notification settings in User CP that maybe would increase the e-mails, but that's legitimate stuff, not Spam.

Re: SPAM

I opened that link and started getting hungry until I saw...

SPAM Cheesecake!

Some things are just WRONG.

[PS: I notice that the manufacturer calls it "SPAM®." Now, the grammar Nazi in me is totally conflicted. Obviously the trademark holder has the right to capitalize it any way they want. But it's not an acronym! I still cringe when someone puts a lower-case i or e in front of a proper noun to make it sound more trendy.

So I scoured the site linked above. Even they won't acknowledge the origin of the name. They do mention the story I've always heard: "One popular belief says it’s derived from the words 'spiced ham.' The real answer is known by only a small circle of former Hormel Foods executives. And probably Nostradamus."

I need to get a life.]

Re: SPAM

Spam tacos are a Hawaiian delicacy and taste amazing. One of my favorite mash ups of two or more cuisines. In this case Mexican, Hawaiian and Asian.

At first the Nurse Sharks wouldn’t eat it, but after one did they lined up for a taste.
