Transport of boat bits like EPIRB

We will fly to Europe hopefully by the end of this year to start our cruising life. We would like to transport some critical boat equipment from Australia to the EU. Can we transport an EPIRB and two AIS-MOB devices (both with built in batteries) on the flight? Some vendors are warning that this may not be possible.

In terms of the lifejackets, I think it will be no problem if the CO2 cartridges are removed.

Regards,

-Richard

Re: Transport of boat bits like EPIRB

Check with the airline as they are the final arbiters.

For example, QANTAS are happy to take PFDs (with cylinders attached) as long as you get pre-authorised and meet their requirements. You do have to declare them when you check in and it will take a bit longer than normal.

I’ve taken PFDs as both carry-on and checked luggage.

I can’t see that EPIRBs or other small electrical equipment would be an issue but they’ll let you know.
