US Citizen Buying Canadian Boat in Panama

I'm flying down to Panama this week to look at a Canadian registered vessel -- I've done a little research and so far it looks like the process to get it documented should be pretty straight forward
  • Get Notarized Bill of Sale
  • Get Copy of the Boats Canadian Registration
  • Get boat removed from Canadian Registry
  • Do US Documentation Paperwork

Anyone else done this before? What else do I need? Should I get it registered somewhere other than the US or will that just be a headache? Not really planning on bringing it back to the states anytime soon
