Vessel Names and UK Ship Registry?

Any of you U.K sailors know whether the name of a yacht registered in Part I of the U.K. ship registry has to be unique? Where yacht names are concerned, it seems that nihil nove sub sole, and there is already a small vessel registered in the U.K. with the name I've chosen (according to the ITU database; maybe it's not Part I registered).

And if the name must be unique, can this be gotten around by adding the home port (like "Aurora of Southampton")?

LAST QUESTION: if you use the home port in the name like that, does that have to actually be the real home port? So you couldn't name the vessel, for example, the Titanic of Warsaw?

Please enlighten me, if you can.

Cheers, Dockhead

The name has to be unique, and you can use xxx of yyy and its can be anything as its is just a name. The port of registry is displayed seperately

so you can have Spok of Enterprise , port of registry London if you like

Cool, thanks. So I understand correctly that "Spock of Enterprise" will be a unique name even if "Spock" is already taken?

Thanks.

Yes, that is correct. It could be Spock Two or Spock II or Spock X if you like.
