Visas Prior to Departure

Hi All,

I am new here and though I have read a lot of past posts already, I can't seem to find - just yet - anything to do with entry procedure/visas to other countries. I'm sure all countries have a different process but in outline my question is this; are visas to be booked months in advance prior to departure etc or do I just rock up in a foreign port, tie the old girl up (boat not wife) and nonchalantly stroll in to the office and say "hi I'm here, how long can I stay"?

Thanks,

Daz.

Welcome to the Forum, Daz.

All of your visa questions are answered at Noonsite: The global site for cruising sailors Click on "Countries," then select the one(s) you're curious about. Down the left side of the next page will be clickable links to the formalities for visiting.

What a site!

A whole load of info to read but will make my way through it. This forum has already opened my eyes to the formalities of cruising life that I was unsure of. I'm sure there will be a lot more to come to!!

Many thanks.

I just curiously went and clicked on Bahamas.
I don't see anything about visas etc.
I admit I did not read the whole page and all links.
??

<edit>

Never mind.

Most countries do not require them in advance for cruising sailboats. The US and Australia are exceptions.

It's important to remember that in general the boat and the crew are separate issues. Many countries have limits on the boat related in import and export laws and taxes. A boat clearance out of one port with the next planned port is often required and most countries have rules regarding how long a boat can stay before being subject to import duties.

The crew requirements are related to country of origin and destination. Many countries allow visa on arrival for US citizens. The fact you are arriving by private yacht rather than a commercial shipper is largely irrelevant.
