Where Is it Easiest to Register a Boat for an EU Citizen ?

Sweden has recently raised all fees for owning and register a vessel over 12x4 meter.

Can you advice me where it would be possible for me as an EU citizen to register a boat so I can obtain the boat papers needed for international cruising. The easier the process is the better...and of course..not to pricey

Panama is generally considered the easiest, and certainly the most experienced since they have by far the most foreign registered vessels.

Definitely the best is Germany. 18Euro, no renewals, no nothing. Belgium is another possibility.

You need to check the specific nationality requirements in any country other then your own when you seek to register your vessel. Many do not allow non residents to register.

If you sail in the EU I would not recommend you register your boat on a non EU register under any circumstances.

As a EU citizen, I'm allowed to register in any EU country.
At the moment I'm looking into how Germany register process may suit me.

UK has a residency requirement for personal yacht registration (any nationality - from Albanian to Zambian )........but got to live in the UK (to be legal)..........no idea on the rest of the EU.

Would be interested to hear how that goes (the actual requirements for Foreigners / non-resident)

Got this today from UK

"To register on part 1 you can live outside the UK. On the declaration
of eligibility form if you live in Sweden you will need to appoint a UK
representative"

yes Andreas, where do you then find such a "representative".

I say it again, ships registries long predate the EU and many have particular residency requirements

PS: technically you cant be a EU citizen.

A representative can be a friend living in UK?

Yes I know there is no such thing as a EU citizen...but citizen in a country which is a EU member.

Malta - EU is a good place to register a yacht.

Re: Where Is it Easiest to Register a Boat for an EU Citizen ?

It is not only 'how much', but also the structure - how often you have to renew the papers, how much the obligatory check-up will cost you, the obligatory equipment, etc..

Make sure you considered all such things prior to committing.

Why not? I have a boat registered in The Marshall Islands, and I have a EU passport. What are the regulations for chartering in the EU states as a foreign flagged vessel?

Each state may put their own. Consult laws of the country where you want to charter.

The word 'states' is misleading in this respect, esp. to US citizens.
