Re: Mobile App Changes

The UI for the mobile web really sucks. But there’s a workaround:

Use chrome and just load the "desktop version" of tye site.

Works pretty well.

Chrome allows you to masquerade as a desktop machine even on your phone. Let me know if anyone needs help with this.

you guys have to appreciate how difficult it is to maintain apps. It’s kind of a nightmare. It’s very expensive. It’s very unpredictable. you never know what requirement the App Store is going to come up with next. The kind of money that this site brings in from ads isn’t enough to maintain mobile apps and be reasonably profitable. not without charging you a subscription fee.

Edit: new posts, unread posts, etc all work under the desktop version

Hmmm
Mobile app, unread posts was perfect but no such feature on the site
Yeah now I remember why I switched to the mobile app much easier to use

also, I don’t know if this is part of the change is going on but I use the mobile web interface and it just became kind of unusable. This is what a screen looks like right now.

As I scroll, that enormous, content blocking ad moves to cover everything so you can't read the thread.

i’m on a different vbulletin forum where they had the same problem and I pointed it out to them and they fixed it. They are nowhere near as technically advanced as this form so I’m assuming it’s not a big deal for you guys
Yeah i wonder if this is a way to force advertising views? I cant use the site on my phone. Its un-usable because of the adds. People have been complaining about them for quite a while now and they persist.

I dont mind an add or two but when they get to the point of beyond annoying, i stop visiting the site. Luckily there are still some desktop browsers that mitigate this.

Love the mobile view, not
Would show you the half a post that displays and doesn’t resize to the screen but attaching an image seems to require a utl to the image so not obvious how to share an image captured on my phone

Remember this, circled in red?

You can use it on your phone if you load the desktop version with chrome.

Re: Mobile App Changes

And the Apple App Store is what requires Google to use WebKit instead of Blink for the rendering engine, which kind of circles back on topic to mobile apps and overbearing app stores being a nightmare to deal with for small businesses

Re: Mobile App Changes

My iPhone won't stay logged into CF when using a web browser.
Any ideas how to get it to stay logged in?

Re: Mobile App Changes

I've used the mobile app for several years, especially when on the road or out on the boat. I've come to really like the New Posts feature on the app and often use it now at home. As of about 3 days ago, the app won't even load on my Android phone. I keep getting an instant "network error". I've tried reinstalling the app but no real change. I've tried accessing the forum through the browser on my phone but it redirects to tapatalk when you click on a thread, then you get the network error message trying to click on the forum icon. What's up?

Re: Mobile App Changes

Apparently the app has been discontinued, happened to me too about 3d ago.
Delete the app and the browser might stop redirecting.

Re: Mobile App Changes

Neither the CF app, nor Tapatalk is working. I don't know how these things work exactly, but this suggests CF has disabled the ports that allow these mobile apps to operate.

These changes are certainly making it less desirable to hang out here.

Re: Mobile App Changes

As indicated in first post, CF is going to migrate to a new software platform.

Certainly long overdue. Will they bring back a real mobile app when this change is complete?

I can only hope. Toggling back to find new activity on subscribed threads is painful even on mobile version
