Chesapeake Marina for One Month Liveaboard Projects

Hi all, Liberty is in search of a marina in the Chesapeake for the month of August to take care of projects. Currengly we're in the Magothy just north of Annapolis and would prefer to stay between Baltimore-ish in the north and Deltaville-ish in the south, on either shore. Not necessarily in order, here's what we are looking for:

a Perkins engine mechanic
a canvas shop to construct new bimini and renew dodger plastic
pool
clubhouse
other cruising families with children (our boys are 12 and 15)
reasonable cost a plus

Thanks much in advance.

Dave

Re: Chesapeake Marina for one month liveaboard projects

Your biggest obstacle in fulfilling your wish list here is finding a marina with a pool and one with reasonable cost. Can't think of one in Annapolis - Baltimore area that fits that bill. There are a couple with pools on Back Creek in Annapolis, but they're all pricey. Mears, for example, charges $3.50 per foot per night. Nice facilities, but hardly worth the price, imo.

Herrington Harbor South off of Herring Bay has a pool. But not much in the way of other services.

West River Yacht Harbor in Galesville has a pool. It's a condo marina and usually has slips available from slip owners. There's also good services down the road at Hartges Marina. There's also a canvas guy in town that is supposed to be OK.

Best bet could be Solomons. Spring Cove Marina has a nice pool and the place is kid friendly. There's also a lot of good services in Solomons.

Good luck.

Herrington Harbour NORTH has all you're looking for. Pool, all kinds of marine services, West Marine store on-site, excellent management, very clean marina, and reasonable prices.

see: Herrington Harbour Marinas Chesapeake Bay Resort - Dining - Lodging

Also, good restaurants nearby and closest marina on the Bay to Washington, DC.

(no affiliation with them; just a happy customer for some years now)

Duffy's Creek on the Sassafras River.
Eastern shore, right at the Delaware Maryland Line,
has haul out, pool, resturants nearby, (walking distance,
showers, etc. reasonable rates, with good mechanics onsite.

Hi Dave,

I'd tend to agree with Bill that Herrington Harbour North is a good bet.

If you'd like to be in Annapolis my marina (not MY marina, but the one I keep Auspicious in) has everything on your list except other cruising kids for $1/ft/night. Bay Shore Marine can help you with your Perkins and we have lots of canvas shops in Annapolis. There are certainly kids around (the marina is part of an apartment complex) and there are a number of kids at anchor up and down Back Creek.

PM me if you're interested with length, beam, and draft and I'll hook you up with management here.

Lippincott Marina in Grasonville has a swimming pool and service facilities. I bough my boat there a few years ago and worked on it through the summer. Should not be very pricy as it is one the east shore and a bit out of the way. They have a travel lift and don't make a fuss if you want to work on your boat.

Re: Chesapeake Marina for One Month Liveaboard Projects

Thanks all for the suggestions. Now have to talk it over with admiral and mates. We were up the Sassafras a few years ago, anchored just beyond the lift bridge, and loved it. May have to check that one out. Also have a cruising friend from Colo. who kept his boat on the hard at Herrington Harbour for many years. Thanks Auspicious, we may need to get over to Annapolis just to track down some kids on Back Creek. Will PM you if we decide that looks promising.

Any more suggestions?

Dave

Re: Chesapeake Marina for One Month Liveaboard Projects

Reiterate that HH and Spring Cove are good options.

A few other possibilities: Port Annapolis in Annapolis (good amenities, and the various workers are aplenty in Annapolis); Jabins in Annapolis (no pool, but best work availability); Zahnisers in Solomons (good all around except maybe cost); there were a couple places on Kent Island, but I can't recall the names.

A couple other comments: Eastern shore and south are less expensive than Annapolis; you shoud be able to get the monthly rate anywhere and not the transient rate, so if not look elsewhere.
