Norfolk or Portsmouth Marinas?

We are cruising up the JCW and are due to have a few days in Norfolk or Portsmouth. Any advice on which marinas are to be preferred? Or which side of the river?

I just finished the trip up the ICW and am now in Tidewater. I choose Tidewater Yacht Marina (in Portsmouth @ mm 0) based on recommendations from friends. Great marina with a nicely stocked ship's store and pool. Can't speak first hand about other marinas but generally, the word is they are not that nice.
TYM is on the West side of the Elizabeth River.

I used to sail Layla out of Tidewater and will second that recommendation. The restaurant (The Deck, as I remember) was also pretty good.
