Relatively Cheap Dock In Ft. Lauderdale ?

Was wondering where one might put a 45' Catamaran around the Ft. Lauderdale area where it would be on a dock, in a realtively safe area...

Prime Marinas look to be about $1,800 / mth plus power during the prime winter months.... was hoping to find a spot for around 1,000 or less...

Could go to a mooring ball, but would like a dock and power...

Just want to see what is possible as I fine tune my budget... don't have the boat yet but need to cross the "ts" and dot the "is"...

Thanks for any ideas...

Thanks Vasco, That is helpful.... looks like it is possible to get a decent slip for well under 1000/mth for a 45' CAT...in the New River area.... I won't be living on it...

Wife (I think) has agreed to Miami area as long as I can find a decent school for Ks.... then we can go cruising during the Summers... best I can do... only decent public schools in the area are in Weston... so Lauderdale is the closest point to put the boat.... all very complicated but I think the plan is coming together...

Cheers

Re: Relatively Cheap Dock In Ft. Lauderdale ?

People say Lauderdale is expensive, but there are less expensive spots if you know where to look because there are so many docks around...especially for monohulls.

I have been thinking about just such a catamaran dock for another client with a 46-footer. Offseason (now) Las Olas city docks fits near your budget but is not so great for hurricanes.

For year round if you don't mind being on the river I could find a spot for you at that rate.
Or maybe you could help me out if you found a good spot?

if you drive or dingy around you might find a spot behind a house or apt complex in the Las Olas area. If you're lucky you could find one that would fit a cat, or lease 2 slips. being a non live aboard will help and there are houses with one dock and shallow water... which is a plus for a cat also.

Re: Relatively Cheap Dock In Ft. Lauderdale ?

If moving to S Florida is your plan, consider places a little further north. Martin County has one of the best school systems in Fl. There is lots of water for a shallow draft cat. There are empty private docks usually for rent in my neighborhood and several >50 ft. sail cats. Look for Seagate harbor in Palm City Fl. Good luck. T Hanna

Wow, I pay $114 per month at my dock on Lake Pontchartrain north of New Orleans and it includes free electricity and water. Those prices are unbelieveable.

@capcook, Thanks and good luck. Don't wait three more years!

@tfrere, Remember that's for a large cat. Usual 45' monohull rates are $350 or $400. Can't beat your $115rate. That's unbelievably good.
