Re: Another Message in a Bottle, Found!

Way back in the 70's and early 80's I'd walk the beach of The Outer Banks of NC every morning. This area is known as the graveyard of the Atlantic. Most of the bottles I found over the years were from the early 1900's and late 1800's all still had corks in them most were medicine and whiskey bottles, and one very old glass Clorox bottle. Most bottles would wash up after nor'easters, the wave action would stir the bottom and release them from the wrecks. Never found a single note. I did find a glass float which was pretty rare, the Portuguese and others would use when fishing. I kinda figured that coulda done the trans-Atlantic loop several times it was pretty barnacle encrusted. People around here have found messages in bottles, I was never that lucky.

3 years after the war was over it was found on an isolated beach North of Pt Headland and the letter returned to the widow in Western Victoria, Australia.
In perfect condition right up to today & kept preserved for family pass-me-downs..............
That is a tragic but also nice story.

I think its a great idea. Who knows Gilligan and the rest of the crew could be rescued one day with someone finding their message in a bottle.

Just a thought. It would be kind of neat to write your GPS coordinates at the bottom along with your date, time and email address so the finder could contact you. Would make for interesting ocean flow data. We could start a website for us all ocean travelers to then put their results online. I'm sure some oceanography researchers would find this info pretty cool. Just a crazy thought.

NOAA releases floating devices that collect data. Have found them on the beach. They even include a return evelope.

Wow, that is really sweet.
After my dad passed away, a letter was found behind some shelves in a post office in Canada. It was a love letter to my mom, from him. He wrote it and mailed it during the war. The post office tracked my mom down, sometime around 2005 and gave her the letter. What a surprise. A message from the grave.

So, no haters please.
This 3rd bottle was just found in Turks and Caicos after 3 years drifting in the current finding it's way from near Cape Verdes. The man who found it said it was wet inside and he only saw part of the email address and only part of the message.
I wrote a long handwritten message for each one. The 2nd one was about a year ago, but because of the backlash from the find of bottle number 1, I did not post about bottle number 2, found on a uninhabited island in the Bahamas.
I get oddly excited about each one that is found. I just wanted to share my happiness.
Is it wrong, or just fun? ( You don't really need to answer that)
If I was walking on a beach and found a bottle with a message I would be pretty excited. It gave someone a thrill and makes me smile.
If you don't like it, come over and see me about it. In Great Harbour, Tortola.
That's cool.

Overfishing, intentional littering, illegal dumping. Thise things p×÷# me off

A message in a bottle is cool.

I gave up believing in life after death long ago. But then I read a story like this and I wonder, how deep are my convictions?

Monte,

All the eco freaks are out killing Christmas trees. Not inferring the ecology isn't important but I also expected some extremists.
