Any do volunteer or relief work?

Does anyone finds themselves jumping in and helping local organizations while visiting different anchorages? I am not a full time cruiser but I can't imagine for those that travel often it being all drinking and diving. OR maybe it is I have no idea.

I plan on traveling more often and think I would enjoy adding more purpose to traveling by helping occasionally the towns I visit.

Just curious if anyone gets involved in the communities they anchor at?

Beach / reef cleanup: Yes
Others: No
I don't like charitable organisations. I prefer to help in person, if I deem it right.

No, there's groceries, garbage, Laundry, and general supplies that require dinghy and walking, biking or cabbing.

There is cleaning.....always cleaning.

There is always a list of stuff to repair or service.

There is reading

There is cooking.....followed by more cleaning.

Socializing

Then diving and finally drinking.

For me, this is one of the reasons I go cruising. Nothing formal, but if we find we have skills or supplies that would be useful...

We've carried supplies and mail between main centers and outlying islands, carried local people from one island to another, done boat and outboard repair in any number of places, and other things like that. Once completely sanitized and rebuilt a local water supply system.

All depends on where we are and what is needed, if it comes up in conversation then we volunteer if we can, but also don't specifically go seeking opportunities.

not a cruiser yet but cannot walk past plastic or swim past plastic. got to pick it up (carry my own bags on beaches)

turning the boat around to pick it up is not always an option on someone else's boat, but always my impulse: really need my own boat for this.

over twenty years of volunteer work as a landlubber (on top of work), so this may easily continue when i get out there too. will see, but for now, it is mostly about plastic
