Point is though, it was the large portion of poor jet ski operators which prompted this action. As usual, a small number of idiots can rule it for the majority of are descent riders.

Re: Best kind of Jet Ski

Before Jetskis kids had tin fishing boats and catamarans. They were forced to learn something about boating.

Unlike Mike I'm anti gov. I don't need license plates or driving tests. I'd just outlaw automatic transmissions. Boating is largely unregulated and I like it that way. If boating licenses were required launch ramps would loses all their entertainment value.

Actually, Mike, I see fewer and fewer idiot jet ski drivers in recent years. I guess it is because they are not the novelty toy that they were 20 years ago.

And, now the Cops have them and can catch the miscreants.

They are often used as dinghies on larger motor yachts.

I don't think you would want one as your main dinghy -- can't carry stuff very well, and no good in rough weather.

And they are too heavy for a sailboat smaller than probably 60' or 70'.

But I would LOVE to have one on a boat big enough to carry the jet ski besides a normal dinghy (say a 90 footer?).

Poor man's helicopter! Imagine the distance you could cover on one of those, in good weather! I use my dinghy for exploring, and a jet ski would be fabulous for that.

As to whether they are "evil" or not, or belong on the bottom of the sea -- they are no more evil than motorcycles, and there are plenty of jet skiers, just like there are plenty of motorcyclists, who are competent and courteous.

I love them myself; in fact I own one (265 horsepower Kawasaki -- left to me in the will of a friend who died unexpectedly). But my loving them won't carry any water with anyone who knows me -- I also love power boats, trawlers, jon boats, row boats, kayaks, pontoon party boats, canoes -- just about anything that floats. For God's sake, I even like CATAMARANS! I'm just an old boat whore, to be perfectly honest.

Back in the day I had a stand up jetski, tons of fun!!!

I have to say 100mph on the water is scary, but fun... my last powerboat would only do 60, but you think sailing can be big bucks try going from 90 to 100mph going to cost you in the neighborhood of 30k to get that last 10 mph!!!

Now I get excited when I hit 8 knots!!!

Been on the water my whole life seen plenty of idiots on pontoon boats, all the way up to big yacht's doesn't matter the floating device there's plenty of idiots to go around!!!
