Not specific to the OP's car hobby, but I think if you have a solid work type vehicle, diesel engine, it mothballs really well for 5 to 6 months and is far more useful when you need it than a rental

I have had an old 95 Nissan Patrol 4x4 SUV for over 10 years

It is in very dependable condition and the diesel always starts first time after months away.

It is a great utility vehicle for hauling everything the boat needs and in the Tropics, the AirCon cab is better than a truck, especially for perishables.

When we are cruising a different part of the Philippines we position this SUV nearby and better enjoy the exploring with an old lowkey off road vehicle that I trust.

This beautiful river off Antique Coast would have been missed without having our own transport to explore around the mountains.
