Movie projectors

A friend bought over a small (size of 2 cigarette packets) projector last night. It plugs into the PC and projects the PC image/movie onto the big screen. We rolled down a piece of sailcloth and watched the movie on about a 6'x4' screen in great quality. Audio was through the boats stereo system. Does anyone have any experience with these projectors and recommend a suitable one? The one we had was an optoma at around $400. I see cheapies on eBay from $40 but I'm wondering if there's a decent middle of the road model that anyone might recommend. We need a rear sunscreen anyway so we will make it from sailcloth to serve both uses.
Thanks for any pointers
Monte

Its all about lumen output and build quality.
Id say the optoma is a a good deal.
You get what you pay for.
I carry one for small seminars. I have had to buy plenty to find a good one....

Re: Movie projectors

Search this forum for a post on the subject by Jedi. They use one and he had done some extensive research and made recommendations. Sorry, don't remember the post or the forum it was in.

Re: Movie projectors

Anything worth knowing about projectors will be found here Projectors, Projector Reviews, LCD Projectors, Home Theater DLP Projectors at ProjectorCentral.com

The site is mainly for home theatre or presentation use, but I did a quick look at search by features. Select from 0kgs to 1kgs and you should find a few to choose from with heaps of info.

Yes it's all about lumens, contrast ratio and build quality that's for sure

Read up about DLP and the rainbow effect before you get a DLP projector. Some people really don't like them, personally I struggle to see the rainbow effect even if I try...

Re: Movie projectors

We have one at home and I've always wondered about the practicality of one on a boat. Ours is on the higher end, High def, 3D Epson projector. But its much larger. I think the picture is better than a flat screen, but color isnt quite as good. I know epson makes a lot of models in all price ranges. worth checking out anyways.
How long has your friend been using it on the boat? Any problems with moisture or corrosion?
That could be great for overnight downwind passages. Great big screen right there in front of you
