Streaming Music via Internet

So here I am, thinking it would be great if I could stream some good island music... At least if I can't be in the islands on a boat at the moment, I can close my eyes and pretend

Anyone have links to good stations that stream music you enjoy?

I've come to appreciate last.fm, because you can name your artist and last.fm will stream music from that artist plus others it assigns to the same genre. It's like having a radio station that has mixed a steady stream of music that's right in the groove to fit your mood.

For example, if you google Bob Marley music, last.fm will be one of the options the search returns. If you click on last.fm, then click on Play Bob Marley Radio, the first track will be something of his and the following tracks will be from artists like Peter Tosh or Inner Circle, etc., but the artist you started with will get more play than any other artist assigned to that genre by last.fm.

Once it starts to become repetitious and a bit monotonous, or your mood changes and you'd like another genre, ask for an artist who represents that genre to you, then click Play (that artist's) Radio, and you're off in another direction. All music, no advertising.

I've never tried last.fm but I will.
I've been very happy with Pandora.com. I have very eclectic taste in music and Pandora.com seems to fit the bill.

You guys should check out the SqueezeBox. The "Boom" model is perfect on a boat (12V, big sound etc)and streams from your laptop in addition to streaming from the Internet, incl. Last.fm, Pandora etc. No computer needs to run for Internet streaming.

cheers,
Nick.

No, that is incorrect BS. It's available at no charge - I haven't really looked closely, so I don't know how they make their money.

FYI TJ

I read the fine print. There is no charge if you're in the UK, Germany and USA, unless you sign up for subscriber radio (whatever that is).

However, others overseas must pay for it ... which is a unfortunate, as is sounds like a fantastic idea and format.

I recently discovered Music Videos on www.YouTube.com. It’s worth a look.
Thanks for the other recommendations.

i have eclectic tastes as well... i found wfuv.org about a year ago and haven't turned it off yet... it's out of Fordham University in Bronx NY... 90.7 on the fm dial but they stream from their website... no commercials ever, stricktly member supported but you don't have to join to listen...

there is also a usb device that collects all internet radio and lists them in it's own format... it works well, my father and brother-in-law use it...

iTunes is a free application for Mac and PC.
As noted, there are hundreds of stations, listed within dozens of genres.
Good stuff!
