From first hand experience down island, I would agree. Even in the French Islands the boats often have men and women who resemble "Walmart" people and you really don't want them to take off their clothing within your eyesight.

I don't have a ton of sailing experience (I'm working on it) but my first overnight sail to Catalina there was a beaten up looking trimaran moored in front of us and, while me and a girl were playing guitar on the bow, a beaten up looking sailor came on deck and stood there listening to us. I don't think either of us were offended. I just assumed that it was a regular thing.

While I readily admit that many folks don't take good care of themselves, I try to see the fact that they are comfortable and enjoying the natural world around them and hope they see the same thing when the see me. Don't worry so much about what others and yourself look like and feel the breeze.

Around these parts you are more likely to run into athletic 12-45 year old people at and around the nude beaches. Always interesting to see the nude water skiers because you probably got a good idea how bad it's going to be when they fall, and the day really hasn't started till a naked Bush/Clinton/Jay Leno/ Darth Vader has skied by. I tend to stay off of Sauvie Island though as it's hard to fish with a large group of naked guys playing volley ball behind you. You would be amused at how many people get nervous about you fishing on the nude beaches. And as I usually go to the water to fish I tend to keep my pants on to keep free of entanglements and so I don't give the fish the wrong impression. Also seems like if I was sailing around being nude might require extra cleaning.

We also tend to get a bunch of tourists on the beaches, and since I didn't remember to put it up top lots of boats and pwc's with drunk naked people.

While achored in Bonaire there was this young lady on a boat next to us who exercised for a half hour every morning on deck in the buff, I never missed a show the whole time we were there. :-)

Heard a story once about officials boarding a boat to check papers. The wife was topless. The one uniform said "Madam would you mind putting something on" she went below and put on some Bob Dylan, and came out again.

On a more serious note, we sail naked most of the time, saves on laundry. We have a pair of whatever handy in case of a visit. Our cockpit is extremely private. I have no objection to nudity and barely notice it. I do object to people peeing over the side in our direction. Its unsociable and crass.
Nearly as bad as the Capuchin Monkeys who sh1t in their hands and throw it at you if they run out of fruit.
