What type of fish is this?

We took these pictures a few years ago while sailing between La Paz, MX and Galapagos Islands.

Does anybody have any idea what type of fish this is? I though Mahi Mahi, but the fins are unusually bright colours for one....

I have no idea about fish but Google found some articles showing varying colors in Mahi Mahi, such as the image below:

Yep, having seen countless mahi-mahi....aka...dolphin...aka...dorade...my 2c is that it is a what it is, pick you name above.....the yellow forked tail and splayed pectoral fins is pretty much a give-away....these fish are to be found worldwide..females are notoriously different from male fish...but both good eating...
I'd venture to say, that the fish most often caught by sailors trolling a line behind their boat is one of these.

100% a Mahi-mahi. No question.

The colors are much more brilliant when they are in the water. I once stopped for a cool-off swim while crossing the ITCZ and by chance stopped on a school of them. They are not shy with boats or swimmers. It was quite cool.

Re: What type of fish is this?

I'm curious to know where the difference in names come from...

Here along the east coast of the Florida Keys...B'mas, they are universally known as "dolphin"

They are not coastal fish, preferring deeper water.

Our local fishery management, think these fish have been overfished.
