140' 5/16" G4 Chain Needs Re-Galvanizing

We are upgrading to 3/8" G4 chain and have 140' of 5/16" G4 galvanized chain that is rusty in a few spots and needs re-galvanizing in my opinion. If you are in the SF bay area, there is a shop that will re-galvanize in the East Bay.

If you bought this chain new, it would cost ~$6.70/ft at west marine or about the same at defender when including shipping. We will sell it for $2.00/ft = $280 or best offer. Not sure if I can ship it, so if that is a must, then we'll have to talk about packaging and shipping costs you would pay as well.

As a bonus, you can have the anchor swivel attached to one end.

It will cost more than new or equal by time you pay to galvanizing.

Not true at all. I recently re-galvanized 225’ of 5/16” chain in Houston for $175. Significantly less expensive than new. The place I used does bolts so they even put the chai in a basket to spin off the excess zinc.

Given I am in Houston area and may have a need for this service- can you share your provider?

After the galvanizing I did need to stretch the chain out on the dock to untwist it. I think the way they fed it into the basket put a bunch of twist in it.

Yes, there are galvanizing companies in most areas of the country that will re-galvanize chain like this. It will be less than buying new, but that is someone's preference to remake used or buy new. In our case, we upgraded, and it is no longer needed. Make a reasonable offer for the chain. It will end up at the dump if nobody wants it, and that would be a waste of renewable chain imo.
