Post Android boating app - looking for testers

Hi there,

We've been working on a new boating app and our Android version is finally ready for testing. We're paying testers $10 for their time.

The process takes 10-15 minutes and requires a 9 question survey at the end.

If your interested in testing the app, please let us know and I'll share the specifics with you.

We're trying to learn as much as we can.

Thanks for looking!

Same question. What does it do? Also, does the test need to be done underway or at sea?

I would do it just for the interest. You can send my $10 to Chris.

Re: Android boating app - looking for testers

Would be interested in helping, but my boat is out for the winter - is that a problem?

I would be willing to beta test your app. We would need to know what your objectives are for it's function. In the past I have tested products for Apple, Microsoft Adobe and others. I do not want payment - please donate any payment to hurricane relief

I'd be happy to try a boating app, no need to pay. Please let us know what it does.

Re: Android boating app - looking for testers

It would take a lot more than $10 to get me to try an Android app from a source which provides zero details as to provenance and therefore risk.

Android as an operating system (OS) is dangerous enough as it is without agreeing to side load an app which has not been accepted on the, already flaky, Google Play Store.

In this instance one could simply be opening the door to a Trojan. I am not saying would; due to the complete lack of evidence of any sort. Other than that the person offering has just joined the forum and this is the only post. There is no detail about him or her.

I take it you are an Apple user? Where is your sense of adventure? I dont want the $10 either as I would have to give my bank details and that's far more risky than a rogue app. I use ESET AV on all my devices anyway
BUT WHAT DOES IT DO?

Re: Android boating app - looking for testers

It's never a good idea to 'sideload' a mobile app from an untrusted source. The point of the Google Play store is that they inspect and test apps before they will host it, to ensure that it doesn't have a Trojan or other malicious content, and that it isn't overly promiscuous with permissions.

Public app beta testing should happen through distribution via the Play store.

Not saying that this particular app or developer is malicious... but it's still no excuse for insecure distribution.

Re: Android boating app - looking for testers

Actually, I am not an Apple user. My primary phone is Windows 10 Mobile and I use a secondary Android one. I also use an iPad but that is a tablet. Albeit that it has a SIM in it. I am no fan of Apple but am of their marketing - which is excellent at parting fools from their money. My iPad was off EBay.

The risk is to the data on the phone. In particular the risk access to that data might create.

As for AV and other programs for mobile operating systems; my reading is that they are a waste of space. Again, not my research but that of others who have both the knowledge and the means to test.

None of which will stop the sale of snake oil or the gullible getting bitten by the real things.

I am putting this thread on hold until the OP contacts a moderator and informs what is.

A new poster with no info so we err on the side of caution.
