Bosun chair

Bosun chair for sale, 220 lbs rating, only used twice in six years, looks like new, always stored inside main cabin. Asking 120.00 U.S. dollar, can cardboard box it up for shipment.

Re: Bosun chair

Dockhand, forum rules require that the location of items for sale be posted in the ad, along with an asking price. Please add the location in an additional post ASAP or we will have to delete your thread.

For the mod team,

Jim

I don't really want to go up the mast but it looks like I may have to. And I'm under 200 lbs...so this might work. Is there instructions booklet etc to go along with?
Thx, Rol1964

Re: Bosun chair

I don’t have an instruction manual, I’ll say most old Salts know how they are to be use.
Clip with one one (back up line)
“Tie”the lifting line on
Lift with the “Tied” line
Tighten the back up line
Continue the process until you are at the height you want.
On lifting line be sure you have three or four wraps on the winch
Same on back up line, on a different winch.
Any questions just let me know, best to have a two or three team members helping you.
The seat is solid and sits very nice, you only have to keep your self from swinging around the mast.

Re: Bosun chair

Ahoy Rol1964:
---Instructions---

IF you have no one to assist you / manage the winch on the mast, you can hoist yourself up using block-and-tackle from the boom which you have hoisted to masthead with main halyard. (ie: one end clipped to bosun's chair, other end hoisted to mast head).

But a word of caution: ALWAYS collect the bitter end in a bucket tied to bosun's chair. DON'T let it fall casually to the deck as you hoist yourself up.

I discovered this truism on a single-handed passage when I was 300 miles offshore. Somehow the bitter end got wrapped around the cleat at the base of the mast. Hanging there, 20 feet off the deck, it took me 1/2 an hour of cursing/shaking the rope/cursing/shaking the rope to get the bitter end off the cleat.
PS: It was this experience that resulted in my daily log entry which became my signature line to all my posts. <grin>
