Drifter, 40-45' luff

Looking for a drifter, preferably with hanks, but a wire luff might be acceptable too. Luff length should be between 40-45'.

If you can't find one on the west coast, look at baconsails.com.

Thanks Bill! I've looked in a few places now, haven't quite found something the right size though.

Re: Drifter, 40-45' luff

40' is probably OK, given that I ideally I want to hank it above my current headsail that I'd be keeping on on the forestay when using the drifter.

Looks like I would need to sew-in hanks for the way I want to use it though, not sure how hard that would be.

Re: Drifter, 40-45' luff

On a previous boat we had a hank drifter and it worked well going upwind in light air. Probably considered "old school" now, but very useful.

Not too hard to convert that sail to a hank on.You would need to add grommets (~12-16" apart) some bronze hanks (on smaller sails you may be able to get away w/plastic or webbing, but bronze will last longer) Easy to find on a search how to do it.

Don't think I saw this message before posting my other thread about adding hanks. I think I'll probably grab this sail.

Minney's in Costa Mesa has lots of sails too.
Headsails

I don't se any drifters there specifically right now but there are a couple of hank on 170 Genoas there that might also be a good option. I got a Reacher and a spinnaker for my boat and found that my big light genoa did just as well and was easier to deal with. YMMV
