Fully Rebuilt Custom Perkins 4.108M $7000

After careful thought I have decided to sell my freshly rebuilt Perkins 4.108M diesel engine. This has been a tough decision, but I believe is the right thing to do. I am deep in the middle of a major refit of my Tayana 37 sailboat. It started as just a small amount of work and has turned into a full-blown refit. At this point I am probably 2+ years out from installing the freshly rebuilt engine. Quite frankly I need the money to focus on other areas of the rebuild and will revisit the engine in a few years.

No expense was spared during the rebuild. I will try and capture everything I did below. Keep in mind hat this is a true “full” rebuild. Everything was stripped down to it’s individual part. If the part proved to be worn, or there was a newer replacement that made sense, then it was replaced. The machine shop did all of the work on the block and head (see pic of receipt from machine shop). New liners, pistons, rings, bearings, seals, valves all gaskets, etc… I also had them properly paint the engine to match the Perkins marine blue. They used 2-part engine paint for this. It is stunning. I am going to try and capture everything I can:

- Started with my original 1981 Perkins 4.108M. Not a 4.107 or other variant. The engine was running just fine when I took it out. Just wanted to have it ready for my future cruising plans. Engine has 2600 hours on it prior to this rebuild.
- Magnaflux tested
- Rebuilt original starter (all replaceable pieces done. Not a hack job.
- Rebuilt fuel injection pump done by Arundel Performance Diesel in Maryland
- Rebuilt injectors with all new tips from Arundel Performance Diesel in Maryland
- Brand new lift pump from Parts 4 Engines in the UK
- Brand new water pump from Parts 4 Engines in the UK
- Brand new Bowman heat exchanger assembly from Parts 4 Engines
- Brand new Exhaust SS elbow from Trans Atlantic Diesel in Virginia
- special attention paid to oil seals. upgraded oil seals used.
- Serpentine pulley kit from Trans Atlantic Diesel in Virginia
- Brand new Balmar 150 AMP Alternator with custom bracket
- Brand new Balmar Max Charge MC-614 voltage regulator
- Brand new gauge panel from Trans Atlantic Diesel in Virginia
- Many, many miscellaneous new parts, hoses, bolts, etc…

When the machine shop was done with the rebuild they placed the engine on an engine stand and ran it for me for about 30 minutes. I have never heard a Perkins 4.108M engine run so smoothly. This is basically a new engine, probably much better than new. I moved the engine to my garage and properly covered it and stored it inside since rebuild has been completed. Original plan was to have it installed this summer but at this point, I am 2+ years out.

Given the superb condition of the engine, additional upgrades (Balmar alternator, serpentine pulley, etc…) I believe a fair price to ask is $7,000.00 FIRM. Just bolt up your existing trans and this will be a drop in replacement for anyone needing to replace / rebuild their Perkins 4.108. Much cheaper than a repower. I would argue much better than a repower as well.

There is just too much here to list. I can provide additional pictures and details. Just contact me and I will provide my phone number. We can discuss I prefer local pickup. The engine is not palletized right now. I live in Middle River Maryland.
