Re: Hinged CQR Stainless, 60 pound

There is the "Genuine CQR", now made by Lewmar. These will have "C.Q.R." on the anchor shank (and usually "Made in Scotland").

Lewmar does indeed make a stainless-steel CQR.

IF "C.Q.R." is not on the shank, it is not technically a CQR, rather, it is better described as a "CQR-style" anchor.

Does yours have "C.Q.R." on the shank?

Happydrv, You are pretty quick with your cute snappy answers, but your claims for this anchor don't quite stand up and I think you are aware of that, but still you're trying to catch someone unawares.

I'd let it go but that kind of stuff, trying a rip off, doesn't sit well with me.

As for your anchor, stainless CQR knock offs don't have much value because many people have found they don't work very well.

The reason I hitch hiked from Mexico back to San Diego to buy a Bruce anchor was that my boat never stayed where I anchored it with my "beautiful" stainless steel CQR knock off.

Maybe you could flog it for $100 at a swap meet?

Too big for my boat or I'd keep it.
Beautiful beast of an anchor for bigger boats than my 42'

eBay new runs over $2,500, used $1,800
Looking for around $800, great deal.
Best offer....?

SW Florida - no shipping figured....
Guess the first line of yours pegged it.
Does not look to be a CQR but still appears to be a working anchor.

Just wish it was in Australia ...
I need something to throw over board just in case...
Probably only use it once as it'll probably hook under a big old dead gumtree in our River .........
Been looking for a couple of old train wheels ... lol

Re: Hinged CQR Stainless, 60 pound

I have dragged a number of genuine CQR'S of various weight's around the planet, before the new generation of anchor's came along, they were the go too anchor, along with the Danforth, the new generation are better AND less investment, i have a FISHERMAN, that weighs a ton, if that goes down, i don't move, a pain in the ass to deploy and retrieve, and rarely used.

Hey happydrv,
For what it's worth, which is nothing:
Ignore the fools. Some people, it's just the way of things. Cant fix stupid. But you can ignore it.
Nice CQR style anchor, I personally love my CQR, I have watched rocna's dragg across bays, multiple times. My CQR has never let me down.

Good luck

PS; Remember; ignore the fools.

This post for the OP. Not interested in arguing or dealing with the trolls.

One can be surprised by the desire for boat bling.

Really??? For me going to a Rocna finally gave me the ability to sleep at night. Don't know where you sail but while cruising Mx., I never met anyone who said anything negative about a Rocna. Personally my CQR would land upside-down a good 30% of the time.

Re: Hinged CQR Stainless, 60 pound

@"fools" & "trolls" - fwiw: we circumnavigated twice (11 years altogether) anchoring exclusively with genuine CQR anchors, 35, 45 & 60lbs, and with 2 or 3 exceptions the results were excellent. We saw many people drag their "plow style" anchors though. The worst knock-offs we saw were cast "stainless" ones...
So not denigrating the genuine(!!) CQR at all, just the imitations.
(On our third rtw we used a "Bügel" anchor and on our recent France-Tahiti cruise a Mantus, both with outstanding results & zero failures.)
