Live aboard

Looking to rent long term liveaboard in St. Augustine, FL area. This would be for just me and my dog. I do Real Estate so I work from home. Not necessarily looking to take boat out, but would like to eventually possibly.

Re: Live aboard

I am not trying to rain on your parade, mate. But that would be a very high risk proposition for a boat owner...then throw in a dog and it would be...have you lost your mind? You might want to amend it to size and breed of dog.

Here is another problem to consider. The boat owner has to pay dockage and insurance and upkeep on the boat ...no matter what. Then above all else he has to consider how much he wants to extract from you ...above and beyond. Maybe he would have to charge you 1500-2000 if he is willing to take the risk.

I had a German Shepherd and he was my best friend. He never was the destructive type. But he has been gone 4 years now. Guess what? I am still finding tufts of his hair. Hairiest boy on the planet. It got everywhere you can't even imagine.

You should also let people know what rent range you are looking for. You have to pay over premium to even get a pulse rate going. A guy who is shelling out 500 a month, all in, isn't going to be interested in you at 800 dollars....

Re: Live aboard

There are a few boats used as Air Bnb's around. Those are the kinds of prices involved, w/o pets.

If you've ever had to re-do an apartment where pets were not dealt with well, you'll understand the resistance to including a pet on a boat, plus their claws are hell on the varnish on the cabin sole. They can't help that.

The owner would have to get special insurance.

Marinas probably often don't allow it.

What happens when the owner wants to use his boat?

Lots of problems from the owners' points of view.

I'm not saying it won't happen for you, but, like the poster above, I don't think it will be how you might have been thinking of it, "why wouldn't they want some extra $$? The boat's just sitting there." In fact, boat owners have to schedule work days on the boat so that they can enjoy weekends on it. Most want them available on a whim.

I would not expect to be allowed to take it out. Not only would your competency to do so be in question, but there are also insurance issues.

In spite of so much against it, rarely, people do manage to find something like what you're looking for, so good luck with it, maybe it'll fall into place. ....Just don't be surprised if it doesn't.

Ann

Maybe you'd want to consider a partnership in a boat?
