Can you provide the serial # and does it come with a wheel drum?

The unit was built in February 1992, hence it was built with 304 stainless. 316 stainless was used starting in July 1997. But that doesn't mean it is not a good unit, just a bit pricey for a 31 year old wind vane.

I think the condition should be a better determination of asking price than age. 304 or 316, it doesn't appear to have much, if any rust. Nothing wrong with 304. A rebuild kit with bearings and wear parts is $195. That and some elbow grease and stainless polish and it should be as good as new. They are about $5000 new.

Re: Monitor Wind Vane

Hmm, the pictures in this post are identical to the pictures of another Monitor put up for sale on the other side of the country 4 years ago:

https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...-a-215927.html

The only thing that doesn't match is the purported serial number and that unit included a picture of the wheel adapter. That seller claimed the unit was a 2013 model. Me nose smells something fishy, caveat emptor.

Re: Monitor Wind Vane

The photos could be re-used from when he originally purchased it, or maybe they are representative photos, which would be misleading.

I PM'ed the guy a few days ago and offered to do a local pick-up if I ended up buying it, but I haven't heard back. Doesn't mean it's a scam necessarily, but isn't a good look.

Re: Monitor Wind Vane

Had a similar experience a year ago on this site with a monitor for sale. Willing to ship you a scam, that should be the first sign.

Re: Monitor Wind Vane

Thank you all for looking and comments. I would like to clarify and hopefully answer the queries and doubters.
1. Yes I borrowed photos from previous post as I don’t have any of this unit mounted. In hindsight I should have made that clear.
2. As has been pointed out in a post it is 304. There is only surface discoloration and no imbedded rust.
3. I offered to ship to try and be helpful. I ship my products (coffee) regularly. So instead of being labeled a scammer I was trying to be the good guy!
4. I have attached photos disassembled. It is in storage.
5. The movement is smooth without any snags or tough spots. I believe it is in good operating condition
6. I did try to upload a video showing such but the site will not allow
I hope that clarifies most if not all concerns.

Re: Monitor Wind Vane

I think people are just skeptical, particularly with windvanes since there have been a number of scams perpetuated here with these specifically.

Flyingfox did eventually get back to me, so I retract my statements above.

Not really. It was just a typical internet thing. He did use different pictures which could be misleading, but hearing the explanation I understand. It's all good.
