Navman gpilot 3100 display head

I need a display head 3100 or 3100s to keep my autopilot running.
The LCD on my one is broken and not repairable.
Would like to hear from you if you have a new OR Used display to sell.
Thanks Alan

Re: Navman gpilot 3100 display head

Lots of folks with that a/p have had display issues over time. I had to replace mine once under warranty and once again out of warranty. Subsequently I have been advised that the problem is in the "zebra" connector that goes to the LCD, and that a good techo can repair it. Mine is showing the signs again, so I'll likely be investigating this in the future.

I had a link to a Youtube clip discussing the repair, but lost it in a disk crash. Likely could be found with some searching if you are interested.

It's not a bad autopilot, but that pervasive problem is a bitch!

Re: Navman gpilot 3100 display head

Hi Jim,

Thanks for quick reply.
I have had the connector problem to the LCD last year and replaced to a Zebra connector using a kit which comes with all the bits and install discription to carry out the job.
Bit fiddly getting all segments going on the G pilot as it has a very wide zebra making many connections. But it worked well in the finish. Recommended - Indigo Electronics

Sadly my problem now is different where the LCD itself is breaking down and has a brown blob forming and blotting out the central digits. The bad area can be seen when the unit is powered both on or off.

So for me the Zebra connector strip fix will not work this time.

Would be helpful if I can either get advice of part number and where to get a replacement LCD that will match the display.
OR understandably if anyone has given up on Navman GPilot for another system. Then maybe still have the Gpilot in a box whereby I can repair the display head with a zebra connector.

I really like my Navman system and would love to keep it going.
Navman have nice big digits & really good data bus. Sad they had to go.
Cheers Alan

Seems I was preaching to the choir! You are ahead of me on the repair curve. Good luck with finding one, but they never sold very many of those! units I understand. Too bad they cheaped out on the displays... leaves us with a blind a/p

Re: Navman gpilot 3100 display head

Hey Jim,

Thats cool. If yours just has some digit loss then is well worth the zebra repair, you can carry out easily yourself.

I also actually have a second display to the cockpit, along with depth and speed.
Navman replaced those displays free of charge to 3100s and they are in the weather etc. Have been no problem about 9years now (touch wood)

Anyhow I will keep working on finding a replacement head to the gpilot 3100 at my navstation.
Have a big passage coming up - Indian Ocean - Asia to Africa next year. Nice if I can also read our course in out of the weather

Cheers Alan

Good Morning. I have a 3100 display on my boat that I don't use as I upgraded to the 3800 series display. It's been sitting on board for 4 years now (just in case), but I lucked into a new 3800 Display on ebay so no longer need it. I won't sell it as I can't even guarantee it will function correctly, but I would be happy to give it to you if you could arrange postage From Anguilla BWI to wherever you are. easier to email me @ mtn_rebel@yahoo.com. BTW, FedEx and UPS are both on island.

Cheers..

Alan Gardner, I too had problems with navman products. (In my case the depth sounder display died) I found a company in New Zealand, "Absolute Marine" that specializes in providing very good replacement displays for navman products. I have been very happy with their service and products

Hi Ingrid75
Thanks for reply, Last week I have emailed absolute marine to check on use of an Advansea display but plastimo are not compatable with navman g pilot, think that wind is also a problem.
Depth, Speed etc all match fine.
Cheers

If Alan does not want it, I sure would be happy to have it!!! Please keep me in mind.

Jim

PS I'm not familiar with the 3800. Is it a direct replacement, and is it available often?

Re: Navman gpilot 3100 display head

Hi, has anyone been able to find replacements for these? Even another brand that is compatible? I have the display unit specifically for the autopilot, marked "G-Pilot 3100s" and I'm having an issue where the display randomly reboots. It's almost as if a connection is loose but I have not been able to find a problem where it connects to the main unit. The autopilot keeps running even with the display rebooting, so I think it is a problem inside the display.

I'm looking to see if it is possible to buy a replacement or an alternative but compatible product, as I'm worried about my screen dying on this unit as well (well documented problem with the connector).

I may have one for you. I recently replaced all instruments with B&G. I still have the Navman 3100 Repeater. It has been installed at navy station its whole life, and works 100%. This spring, I intend to attempt to connect to the NMEA2000. If that fails, then it would be a candidate for you.

Thx,
