Rebuilt Universal Atomic 4

I rebuilt this engine 2 years ago, a completely new top end, new cooling mixing valve, new hoses, new head, new thermostat, new plugs and points, new wires, rebuilt alternator. Finished it at the end of February 2017 and it fired up after 2 revolutions of the starter and ran like a charm. You got to love the A4.

Just when I was ready to reinstall it in the Pearson 28 someone offered me an Atomic 4 with every upgrade imaginable, so I had to take it. Kept the original in the shop just in case of trouble, there wasn't any.

Time for it to leave the nest.

Free Local Pickup, or buyer can arrange freight. The engine is already on a stand and we will mount it on a pallet.

Also listed on Ebay, first buyer gets it.

$3500.00, located in Pollocksville, NC

From the pictures, I am assuming this engine was always sea water cooled? ie; no antifreeze containing freshwater cooling system?

Yes always raw water cooled, always in New Bern, NC which is up river with very little salt content. The cooling jacket was opened, inspected and completely cleaned, nothing but a little silt.

Does this have the electronic fuel pump? Do you have a recent video of it running or can you demonstrate before purchase? Thanks.

Mechanical Fuel Pump
Last ran it after the rebuild 2 1/2 years ago. Its been sitting on its stand with everything disconnected ever since. I'd have to reconnect everything to start and run it to make a video. I've had some recent back issues, so I'm not sure how long it would take to get the done.

I’m interested. I have a boat in Oriental that needs an A4 swap. Can I get your number? I’m out of town until Saturday. Thanks.

Sure come see the engine it is located at my office in Pollocksville, south of New Bern on Rt 17. I don't post my private number in the general forum, so either call my office (888-310-9050) and leave a message or PM me.

The best way to describe the engine is transitional. It has characteristics of both early and late. Oil filler tube above the fly wheel, flat fly wheel cover, I think that the distributor is Prestolite, but not absolutely sure. Cast aluminum Zenith carburetor.

I'm also not sure if I mentioned it in the original posting, added a new higher power alternator during the rebuild.

I also got a question recently about if I know anything about rebuilding engines or was this the first one. I rebuild my first engine at the age of sixteen, I'm 66 now. So yes I've got quite a bit of experience in the automotive and marine environments.

Re: Rebuilt Universal Atomic 4

I know that it's been over a year since this post, but was wondering if the A4 was still available? Not sure if mine will need a rebuild or not, just looking at the availability.
