Series Drogue

For Sale Series Drogue....new condition, never been used.

This was professionally manufactured by sailmakers...it was not a kit. We made a Sunbrella quick launching cover. Includes bridle and metal back braided eyes that attach to a shackle. Does not include the chain shown in the picture.

This Drogue was built for a 42 foot sailboat but could be modified either larger or smaller if required. Weighs approximately 60lbs, with cover measures about 48"x9". Located in Pacific Northwest.

These drogues are the Gold Standard for passive offshore heavy weather conditions.

New price today is about $1400US, not including the bridle and the cover. Price is $950.

Re: Series Drogue

Looks like a nice package.

We made our own series drogue when we were in New Zealand, and it takes a lot of time and effort.

After that experience, I can see the benefit of a professional doing all of that work.

Our series drogue is like an insurance policy. If we don't have one, we will need it for sure one day when sailing offshore. One the other hand, if we have series drogue on board, we will probably never need it.

During our circumnavigation, we never needed to use it. We did use a parachute sea anchor one time in a winter storm north of New Zealand. If the parachute had not worked, it would have been series drogue time.

Anyway, I would not want to sail offshore without a series drogue!

Re: Series Drogue

The quick launching cover is an interesting idea. It keeps things from getting tangled up when launching, and looks like a good accessory to the series drogue.

Re: Series Drogue

As I remember it's 132 cones, up to 30,000 lbs displacement. I'm ashamed to say I can't remember the sailmakers we bought it through, ill try to find it but its a slim chance because we are half packed from a move...it was purchased in the UK. R
