Two 16x10x4 holding plates

Removed from ice box, compressor was shot. I really hate to throw these away, I figure somebody could use them. You'll have to pay shipping which estimate might be around $40-50. Located in Jacksonville if you want local pickup.

I believe but am not sure what determines that is the tubing size.

Yes, the old-school type, probably off engine-driven compressors, apparently cannot be adapted to work off the much smaller DC-driven units like Danfoss or Indel-B.

Why couldn’t they? I Believe Cool Blue recycles peoples plates all the time. Assumption is they add the TXV they use and probably pressure test.
I assume however that the tubing size has to be correct. But a quick call to Rich would confirm or deny. Don’t go off of my assumption, I’ve been wrong before.

John, you looking to knock out a reefer system?

Refrigerant velocity within the evaporator coil tubing of eutectic plates is important to prevent eventual problems. Most used eutectic plates have 1/2 inch OD coils for 3400 Btu and up to 6,000 Btu compressors. A BD50 12 volt compressor evaporator coil's tubing is 1/4 inch OD. Five sixteen inch tubing can be used in higher eutectic 25 degree F freeze point cooler plates.

A good rule to follow is the low pressure side of a system which includes the evaporator coils is established by the compressor, suction port size.

Richard, that's great detailed info, thanks.

Is there a way to (have an expert) convert these old-school plates so that they work well with the BD50?

Is that the most powerful DC compressor? What if the boat had high currents available at 48V?

Re: Two 16x10x4 holding plates

I'm the owner of Technautics refrigeration and we have been building holding plate refrigeration systems since 1968 and we recycle about 4-5 old school holding plates per month and set them up to run with a 12v DC compressor. You can download a copy of our standard manual to see the details of our system: http://www.cruiserowaterandpower.com...anual_2015.pdf

We would take your two holding plates and install new refrigeration couplings and an expansion valve on the inlet of plate No 1. The advantage of reusing holding plates is that they are relative expensive to make compared to thin rolled aluminum plates and most likely they are made to already fit your existing Box.

An important thing we need to know is about your Box layout. Cubic foot size? Both freezer plates? Etc.

Thanks for responding Rich. Will likely be a new, custom box, and I'll be in touch for sure as I get ready to go

Re: Two 16x10x4 holding plates

They were from an EZ Kool system BD50 compressor.

Part of the reason I'm not keeping them is because I had to completely tear my box out to remove wet foam (and rotten wood). We are just putting in a drop in unit.
