I have the 8000 series that has been on my boat since 2016. It’s worked flawless since new. Originally I had an MMSI# from BoatUS. I was going to the Bahamas so got an FCC license and new MMSI#. I had an electric technician call Vesper and was instructed how to change the unit to my new FCC# over the phone. OF COURSE Garmin isn’t going to help but the original manufactures should. What price are you asking now? Good Luck

Not sure if the same applies to this model but a couple months ago I contacted Garmin via the website and they gave me the instructions to reset the mmsi on my XB 8000

Problem with the XB9000 "Don't-Watch-Mate" is the touchscreen. It was great for using as an anchor alarm when they finally implemented it.

Vesper's touchscreen was dickey at best. I had it replaced by Vesper once already in 2018.

Now it seems many of the touchscreens are failing. As Vesper no longer exists (none of their contacts work). Garmin seemed very interested earlier this year but then abruptly ceased communications.

That said the (XB8000) guts still work - AIS transceiver and GPS in-and-out still work. Just follow it in OCPN on our CF-31.

Trying to train Watchdog (OCPN plugin). Keeps barking within our identified radius. Especially after hours. Any ideas?

hi @MexicanHat. I spoke with Vesper and they assisted me to clear the MMSI and put the unit back to its default state - ready for a new owner to setup - you don't need external assistance to put in the MMSI etc. They also stated that Garmin have an agreement to continue to support these units. Vesper have been very helpful.

Hi Garth.
Sorry to hear that you did not get supported correctly by the Garmin Support person you contacted. That is incorrect, we do indeed continue to support The WatchMate devices as much as we can. Changing MMSI is supported. I need from your the current MMSI to clear it.

Yeah, so did mine... until it didn't. Went from normal behavior to non-functional in a couple of weeks. It still is sending and receiving AIS signals as usual, just can't access any of the control functions and this is pretty useless. Some can be reached via the phone app, and one can view the data on OPCN, but the units functionality is severely compromised.

And prior to this failure, it had been about my favorite bit of kit on the boat!

Apologies for the delay in responding - was away summer sailing.... I have spoken to Vesper directly and the unit is reset ready for a new owner. You can set your own MMSI and boat data so no issues with setting it up.
