By now you probably discovered a new pump is very expensive.

Have you considered purchasing a rebuild kit instead?

Re: VP 2003T raw water pump

yes, the only thing is i've heard that sometimes the shaft is not true and rebuilds don't work out. i may go that route or just buy new. my previous boat was a baltic 37 and had a VP 2003, non turbo, and i had quite a few engine parts that i kept, and one was a raw water pump. unfortunately its smaller and won't work. sold it to the current owner; so seeing if someone did a repower or like me, bought another boat and had one in a dock box.

Re: VP 2003T raw water pump

^^^^
Two things:

If the pump has the Johnson part number on the cover plate you should be able to source it directly from a Johnson dealer... and likely at a lower price than offered by VP.

Secondly, rebuilding is pretty reliable unless the pump is very badly worn in the vane cavity. New seals and bearings are quite cheap when sourced from an industrial supplier, and cover plates and internal wear plates can be sourced from Johnson if required. Mainesail has generic instructions on the rebuilding process on his useful web site.

I have found it a good idea to have two complete pumps, for in many installations it is easier to replace the whole pump than to replace the impeller in situ. A quick swap, and then service the removed pump at leisure.

Good luck.

Jim
