Perfect...floating would be the ultimate in portable.

Indeed.[emoji28]
They are great machines, many models and an older model readily available. Look at the H series.

Their new machines are comparable to the expensive Solent machines. They are heavy
, like all industrial machines.

Are you talking about the Adlers? I did not find a portable Adler or Solent on their websites.

Re: want to buy Sailrite LSZ 1

None of the industrials could possibly be called portable I suspect.

Durkopp-Adler probably rather different from Adlers?

To my limited knowledge, Adler sells to a lighter use market.

I would personally consider the Sailrite industrial performance wise and portable. That's the machines's niche. Sailrite says "semi-professional" I believe.
There is an identical looking machine to the Sailrite on the market, by the way. It has the same features for half the price as even the basic. But it does not have the Sailrite modifications, customer service nor the resale value.

want to buy Sailrite LSZ 1

I’d sell mine, without being silly, every tool or toy is for sale.
But with all the add ons and the extra’s and they fact it’s only two years old and has been used about twice, I’d want close to the sales price of just the machine new, then by the time you add in what has to be astronomical cost of shipping, it may be a new one from Sailrite is as cheap or close, it all depends of course on how cheap their shipping is, then of course you can get a 220V machine, mine you would need a transformer or modify it, it doesn’t draw much power, I’d go the little transformer route myself, then it’s obviously voltage flexible.
I’d at least contact them to get a shipping quote, then you have a real number to compare with your shipping costs.

I'd buy a used one, but I'd want a pretty good price. After all I'm pretty cheap, er, I mean frugal .

want to buy Sailrite LSZ 1

I bought ours when so was working still, and had the funds to be sort of wasteful, but wanted to acquire every bit any little gadget we thought we would need, prior to becoming poor.
Storage is filling up with all that stuff I thought we might need but don’t.
The Sailrite sits beside of the Bauer Junior Scuba compressor for example.

Now that we are cruising, if I wanted to carry the weight and give up the storage for a machine, I think no more than the average cruiser uses one, I’d defiantly be looking for a used machine other than a Sailrite, not they aren’t great, but all we ever used ours for was to put together an anchor riding sail and gas can covers.
The Bimini and dodger, dinghy chaos and interior cushions etc we had done, because we don’t have the skill set.
Now if we did in fact have the skill set for all of that, well then that makes a Sailrite much more logical.

Re: want to buy Sailrite LSZ 1

I hope to have the skill set for all of that.
I am sewing several projects with several sewing machines. My problem is I made it but being very sad for the poor sewing stitches.... not the same langs they go from right to left, the thread breaks cause they can not sew 25 thread.
So I think I want to try it, planing to sew a new doger, to no persennings for jib an main sail, a dodger house? The tent behind the dodger i mean. maybe next winter new upholstery in the inside
and last but not least, I have to do it, my very best grandma died sechs years bevor with 101 years was graduated sewing in germany so I thing I must have in in me smile......

As KWISPEL said Sailrite has a EU agent in the UK. The third note in the thread http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ice-93753.html suggests that it is best to contact them by phone.

Re: want to buy Sailrite LSZ 1

Hi,
There is a lot to consider. I have an LSZ1 (old model, bought used in 2007).
It is a good machine, but I have used brand new ones and they are better. Smoother action, less vibration, with fewer skipped stitches. My machine is tricky to use with PTFE threads, although I've learned how to do it.

What you have to consider with any tool is not the cost, but the amount that you use it and the money that you will save. And the alternatives. You also must practice a lot to get good with it.

I was looking through the list of projects that we have done for our boat in the last 10 years:
Roller furler UV strip.
Windlass cover.
Hatch cover.
Throwing line bag and rescue collar bag.
Dodger (2011 edition).
Full set of interior boat cushions (24 pieces)
Full set of cockpit cushions (5 pieces).
Cockpit wheel cover.
Riding sail.
Bimini (first edition)
Cockpit enclosure (8 pieces).
Dodger mount for solar panels using Sailrite's design:
Bimini (second edition - three pieces, to allow shade while sailing)
Bimini mount for solar panels.
Propane carrier for stern rail (3 small propane bottles).
Holder for small items next to bunk.
Lee cloths (2)
Fender holders (2 for 3 fenders each).
Dodger (2019 for modified frame).
Waterproof carrier bag for wheeled cart.
BBQ cover.

Plus many, many other projects for my house, for friends and local organisations.

The money spent on the machine, compared to the cost in materials and time, is very small. It is a lifetime investment in yourself, I think.

If I had the time over again, I would buy a new machine - we just happened to talk to someone who was selling at the right time.

Good luck,
Sue.

look for a machine called Reliable, or Omega they are what the sailrite it based upon and are a lot cheaper and work just as well with the addition of the monster wheel.
