Wanted: Self-steering windvane

I'm looking for a windvane that has the capacity for mounting an emergency rudder (so probably a hydrovane or a 316 monitor.)

Send me a PM if you have something, thanks!

Would an old Auto-Helm work for you? Located in the Bay Area, California. $1100, just needs the brackets for mounting to the transom (4 total, available from Scanmar...struts included).

Re: Wanted: Self-steering windvane

Here's a Hydrovane in San Diego. Have not seen it or contacted listor but looks to have had some use from the pictures. https://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/...507093863.html

I have yet to see a working Auto Helm on a boat. Have seen a number of them but they all have been in some state of abandonment. Don't know the cause but you might want to find out.

A number of vane manufacturers have some kind of emergency rudder capability for their Pendulum Servo Vanes. Had a Sailomat and a Monitor with an add on rudder. Never tried to use it or install it but it didn't leave me with a feeling of security if I'd had to use it for self steering. Think I'd want something like the quick install rudder from WindPilot if I really wanted an emergency rudder that would work. WINDPILOT - Products: SOS Rudder

Re: Wanted: Self-steering windvane

I removed a Hydrovane the 43' sailboat I just sold.

It is in excellent shape. Most of the unit was not mounted.

Re: Wanted: Self-steering windvane

Here is a list of the parts that I have.

Drive Unit VXA2 (2009) mounted on boat for one winter and then removed and put into dry storage

Rudder (2011) new, never used

Shaft 'L' (2011) new, never used

Vane - Stubby (2013) new, never used

Brackets 'H' - Hinged 2009 mounted on the boat for one year and then removed and put into storage.

Bracket 'A' - Double Strut 2009 mounted on boat in 2009 and removed 2018

There are also some new mounting pads and some new stainless steel mounting pipe,
(31" and 14").

Maybe check and see if these are the parts you are looking for and get back to me.

I am located in Comox, Vancouver Island, BC Canada

Are hyrdrovanes as good as everyone says they are? I want one and I don't even have a boat RN.
