Re: Yanmar YSM12

Hi Bombay,
Not sure your question. We pulled our YSM12R and are going electric. The Yanny is in need of a good rebuild at the minimum. Have lots of various spares and some good parts.

My Yanmar YSM12 can't be rebuilt. Looking for a replacement would be interested
in yours to rebuild. I was having a hard time finding a replacement and was thinking to re power with electric.

Welcome aboard CF Bombay79. I'm sorry I can't help you with your search for a YSM12 but I would be very interested to know why your existing YSM12 can't be rebuilt.

I would be grateful if you are willing to elaborate.

FWIW, I am currently rebuilding a YSE8 so I am interested in what makes yours terminal.

There are parts not available, oil pump and cracked head. If you don't have same problem it can be rebuilt.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, a cracked head is a show stopper unless you can get a used one.

I'm not sure what your oil pump problem was but FWIW, I had my oil pump (YSE8) re-machined. The shaft hole was conical and the top and bottom surfaces were badly worn and no longer flat or parallel.

So the bottom flat surface was milled flat, the top plate also milled flat, the top of the housing was milled down so the minimum end play was restored. Then the shaft hole was drilled out until it was no longer conical and then a new shaft was turned up to match the new diameter hole and ever so slightly shorter (to match the material removed when milling the bottom surface). Cost a few bucks but was worth it IMO.

Good luck with finding what you need.

Re: Yanmar YSM12

I'm working with a local Sea Scout Ship on a boat that we want to repower for various reasons. Sitting in her now is a recently rebuilt YSM12. We do need to find another replacement (even to rebuild-able) first.
