Mega lake-effect blizzard may end up as Buffalo's worst ever

"The same powerful storm that brought blizzard conditions and severe cold to a large portion of the central United States will continue to spin close enough to the Upper Midwest to create a major lake-effect snow event this Christmas weekend. For many locations, conditions will be dangerous and life-threatening, AccuWeather meteorologists warn.

"In Buffalo, this storm will likely at least jump near the top of the list of worst blizzards in the city's history, if not even becoming the worst," AccuWeather Meteorologist Jake Sojda said. "Four to 6 feet of snow will fall by Sunday and coupled with wind gusts approaching hurricane force [74 mph or greater] to create enormous drifts and impossible travel."

Didn't Buffalo just have a massive lake effect snow fall and now another that might be even worse.

Why ya'll chose to live in area that gets all that white stuff every year, is beyond my ability to understand....

WOW! That is spectacular. Thank you for sharing! Been to Glacier by motorcycle. Honeymoon trip. Going-to-the-sun Road certainly grabs your attention even on a bike.

Okay, I'll give a go at a response. I suppose to give us proper motivation to vacation somewhere south during our long winter and return before it gets too hot or humid down south.

Admittedly the four seasons of Montana: June, July, August and Winter

I'll let others speak for their reasons to be in The Last Best Place / 406 Country / Big Sky Country.

“If I live a good and upright life and meet St. Peter at the Pearly Gates he will give me a choice. Enter into Heaven or go home to Montana. I’m going home.”

“A mere vision of Montana will make my heart sing.”

“Under the Montana sky, we are small in the best ways.”

“Escape to the mountains of Montana, and let yourself be free.”

“The moon is bigger in Montana, it seems, and the stars somehow shine brighter.”

Montana: where the elevation is usually higher than the town’s population.

If you’ve suffered from sunburn and frostbite in the same week, you’re probably from Montana.

They say Montana is fairly populated – but it’s actually pretty MT.

Are you from Eureka? Because you’re a great discovery.

Montana, where driving for an hour without seeing anyone is not a sign of the apocalypse

You know you’re in Montana when: you hear North Dakota jokes.

“The world is full of bastards, the number increasing rapidly the further one gets from Missoula, Montana.” – Norman Maclean, A River Runs Through It

“In Montana, a policeman will pull you over because he is lonely.” – Rich Hall, comedian

“The best-kept secret about Montana is the women. They are tough, smart, sexy, and kind-hearted. It’s a lucky guy that ends up with a Montana gal.” – Jeff Ament, musician (Pearl Jam)

“Oh Montana, give this child a home.
Give him the love of a good family and a woman of his own.
Give him a fire in his heart, give him a light in his eyes.
Give him the wild wind for a brother and the wild Montana skies.”
– John Denver, “Wild Montana Skies”

A honeymoon motorcycle ride through Glacier now that is a right proper way to begin a marriage.

Cheryl, as a holiday gift to further stir fond memories I'll share a few images of The Going to the Sun Road and one of Saint Mary Lake at the east entrance of the road; Lake McDonald [imaged previously] being at the west entrance to the road.

Currently on the hooks in Willoughby bay, norfolk va. And got my butt handed to me about 9am. Been blowing 35 to 55 all day. Port stay is off the spreader. Roller furling ripped open and almost took my mast with it. Single handedly fought it down and secured it. You really dont want to hear the gory details. Lucky to be alive and i one piece. And i am 67 yo.

Re: Big waves! Bad storm.

Thank you for sending the pictures. Bought this bottle of huckleberry topping at the park on our trip roughly 30 years ago. Didn't have the heart to use it. Stunningly beautiful area. Saw mountain goats and hiked to one of the glaciers. Snow was still lining the road when we were there.

On our ride home, we wanted to avoid the flatness of the great plains by riding back through Canada. So we plotted a route through Medicine Hat, Swift Current, and Moose Jaw. I never saw a river in Swift Current and the only moose I saw in Moose Jaw was this giant fiberglass one created for tourists. When I complained to one of the Canadian residents that our trip was not the heavily wooded adventure that we expected and was rather flat, he replied, "Aye, did you think the Great Plains stopped at the border, aye?".

Well, duh, we actually kind of did.
