Re: Big waves! Bad storm.

A member here Solarbri took his 36' folding cat,Cat2Fold to Jackson Lake I think. The rangers said it was the biggest boat they had ever seen out there. He posted about it back then.

Re: Big waves! Bad storm.

From Marquette, Michigan during the storm. Winds parallel to shore, sheltered bay. 27 feet in open water. Now 30 December and 50 degrees.

I sailed a Chicago-Mackinaw race in the early ‘80s with 70 knots for hours. Seas to 30 feet.

North Ameria's winter weather is unique and we have to live with it. Every year, the same things happen, and we complain or brague about. And it seems to guetting more intense, but we can't do a thing about. So lets endure!. 20 ft on great lakes, it most be a record!.

Re: Big waves! Bad storm.

Depends which Great Lake. Iron ore freighters have broken up and sunk on Superior — NOT 20’ waves. Parts of the lakes get pretty shallow and waves break. At one time commercial vessels could not get insurance after Dec 1st. Sailing the lakes in a storm is a different challenge from the open sea.

Nothing compared to hurricane Ian, 120+ mph sustained winds for 8 hours with 14’ storm surge. Still I will stay in SW Florida where the attic winter took us down to 39 degrees overnight.
