Re: Halifax to Lake Ontario

We left Lake Ontario on May 15 enroute to Georgian Bay via the Welland Canal. You can reserve a upbound pleasure craft lockage online. We hired a deck hand as 3 are required upbound - I can definitely see why, it very turbulent in the locks and our deck hand had completed the passage many times. It was definitely a long day in the canal, but great to get through in one day and be able to move on to continue the journey. Message me if you want a name for the deck hand, the going rate is $300 and I think it was $250 to transit the canal.

Re: Halifax to Lake Ontario

Drumroll30, thanks for asking. We made it from Halifax to Montreal in 7 days. Lots of fog going up the Nova Scotia coast and then not so much in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The winds were perfect for our Gulf crossing so we didn't stop until the North side of Gaspe which was very nice. We managed to time the tide/currents pretty well except just upriver from Tadoussac where we misjudged the timing and were stationary for a couple of hours in 7 knots of water going the opposite direction.

We are preparing to shove off from Montreal tomorrow morning for Lake Ontario and will post an update once that is completed. Stay tuned!

Re: Halifax to Lake Ontario

We completed our passage to Lake Ontario. We left Montreal on July 5th, and made it through the first four locks that day and anchored overnight at Valleyfield. On July 6th we completed the two American locks and stayed tied up at the old Iroquois canal (very cool place btw). We had hoped to get through the two American locks plus the Iroquois on the same day however had to wait at the Snell Lock until almost mid-day. On July 7th we went through the Iroquois lock and made it all the way to Lake Ontario, anchoring outside of Kingston.

From Quebec to Lake Ontario, if you remove our multi-day stop in Montreal, took us 5 days.

Considering the strong currents against you and locks, I'd say that's pretty good time!
