Where to sail where I can park trailer

I'd love to sail somewhere in eastern half of Great Lakes.
Where can I put in and sail a few weeks, and leave car and trailer parked nearby? Economically (cheap). Someplace with lots of gunkhole shoreline. Coming from Virginia, solo, 3-8 weeks, 23 ft trailer sailer full of 8 weeks food & water. But exactly where?

Waupoos Marina, Prince Edward County. A day sail to the heart of the bay of Quinte, or to Kingston, the start of the Thousand islands.

Re: Where to sail where I can park trailer

Just a heads up post. The US/Canadian border remains closed to non essential travel. This will make enjoying the hospitality of our northern neighbors difficult. An additional item of interest is Lake Ontario deep water temps remain stubbornly low. 48 degrees F off Prince Edward Point in the Islands.

Along L. Ontario, just about everywhere you find a decent launch ramp you'll also find parking. I don't know all the ports on the NY side, so I have no specific recommendation. But when you decide on an area, start calling/emailing some of the clubs, marinas and parks.

Also consider the Thousand Islands area - many spots to anchor or dock, and lots to see. And no, you won't be carrying 8 weeks of provisions... no point. You will never be more than a few hours sail away from places to re-provision.

A starting point for port research. An older thread on the Great Lakes.

Re: Where to sail where I can park trailer

The Thousand Islands is definitely the area you want. You've got all the gunkholing you can tolerate, and the option to go out across an open lake (with horizons on both sides) just a day's sail away. There are literally hundreds of private and unattended public ramps where you could drop in a boat that size. If you want to be more confident that the car will be safe unattended, though, it's probably worth sucking up the $100 to $150 for a month of parking at one of the marinas.
With the border closed except for essential business, exploring this area properly will be difficult right now.

In addition to Thousand Islands on Lake Ontario, I would recommend Lake Champlain, both VT and NY shores.

Re: Where to sail where I can park trailer

NE side of Sodus Bay has a free launch and plenty of trailer space. Nearby Katlynn Marine is $10 launch with room for trailers. From Sodus you have a number of small bays for gunkholing with a few hours sail.
