Advice on buying a boat in the Caribbean

Hello all!
Have plans of heading to the Caribbean in about a month. Planning on purchasing a modest sailboat for around 15k, island hopping for about a year and selling it off. At this price point there is not much on line advertisements to look over. We figure the logical place to start is going to the usvi and seeing what is available. Any advice on how to proceed?
We are under the assumption that there are boats for sale in every harbor, just a matter of timing. Any islands better areas for this market? We are not tied to the usvi as of yet.
Thank you for any input.

Sorry, no answer from me. I have the same question. Panama, I have heard, is a good place to look.

Re: Advice on buying a boat in the Caribbean

Go to St Thomas and ask around at the chandleries. Red Hook and Crown Bay are a good place to start. There are boats for sale all over the place. Ask anybody who is getting into, or out of, a dingy. They will likely know someone who is looking to sell a boat. Good luck with it and pack some boat dollars and elbow grease. You’ll need it. And have a blast!
