Re: Australia Is Such an Overpriced Sh**hole - AAARGH

OK,
Things are overpriced here for many reasons and for greed as well. We live with it.

If I wish to find out local knowledge about a particular cruising destination, I would ask a CF member who lives there about their neck of the woods. I do see some CF people having a lot of very shallow and hypocritical things to say about Australia and Australians.

These comments apparently are based on hearsay by those who have never been here or have breezed through whinging that it is not the same as the USA or Europe. I would never be so ignorantly rude to start bagging your country or system or people, travelling broadens one mind....usually.

If it is so bad, stay away, we have enough opinionated ignorami of our own to contend with. If you dont like me saying this. Ok I accept that. Move on.

I have met many international cruisers. Very very rarely I bump into someone who I dont wish to see again. Those times it has been due to their opinionated igorance and is not limited to any particular country or race - just the person's mindset.

If you do get over here, contact me and we'll show you around, go out to dinner or a drink. Meet a real Ozzie.

Agree with all that, although also agree with Talbot re the "two faced premier" (SIC...should be "Prime Minister") beholden to the Greens...and the faceless men who put her there in the first place...but please...let's avoid politics here!!

It's really only the electronics that are much cheaper in the US. Everything else, if one price adjusts, is on a par with Oz.
Parts for Hynautic hydraulic engine controls in the US, delivered to my door cost me about 1/8th of the price that BLA wanted.

BLA are less than 5klm away
The US is 12,000klm away

On CF Australian Politics probably does not count

Oh, and welcome to the "Bought and paid for" club

and just to say that over here the term "Premier" is used on occasion to describe the current Prime Minister. Which is odd really - as few (any?) have been premier in quality......

Unfortunately we're all poorer, and losers. Some just recognise it more clearly.

But lets stick to cruising... who thinks a cabinet all at sea is a hazard, and what's the best way to sink it...

Came across what looked like a freezer unit (around 3mW x 2mD x 2mH) floating ~5nm off the coast just south of Gladstone...very solid, probably steel frame at least...and most definitely a hazard. Couldn't see any way to sink it -- As much as we often feel torpedoes would be useful in dealing with other obnoxious vessels, we were unarmed! -- so we reported it to VMR. It became an All Ships Securitee Bulletin.

"Tories" now...and "backward looking" as well!?! Oh dear...and to think we have actually voted Labour (and Democrat) in the past.

Here's hoping there are some more enlightened views ahead of us...oops, forgot we're supposed to be backward looking...

I do stick to cruising - that's why I didn't respond to Joli's original ignorant comments but rather just to the para that was relevant to this thread.

But your comment in the first quoted sentence above is simply rabid nonsense - and evidently so. Australia's economy is among the strongest in the world, unemployment is virtually zero, and the national accounts are in exceptionally good order.

And yet you poor conservative types can't bring youselves to concede a skerrick of respect for atwice duly elected government that has delivered these outcomes while other nations endured recessions.

You fellas ought to get real.
