Buying a Boat

As A Canadian can I buy a boat in the U.S. and leave it docked in the U.S waters. Do I need to have it registered in Canada for ownwership or just do it all in the states. Also can I insure it with a U.S. insurnace company also if I never bring the boat back to Canada.Any info on buying a boat in the U.S would be great since you can not find any info on just wanting to buy a boat in the U.S and leaving it at the marina where you buy it from. All info only tells you if you bring it back. Any info would be great before I buy it.
