Canadian buying a boat in states

There is more incorrect, half true, incomplete information and incorrect terminology in this thread than I have the time to straighten out. Talk to Lise at Transport Canada Marine Safety in Otttawa she will give you the correct information.

kind of off-topic, but here goes:

if I were to purchase a used boat in WA (where sales tax would be around 8%) and immediately import the boat into canada (paying the applicable taxes/duties) could I somehow recoup the WA sales tax? Or even apply to have the WA tax waived?
