Coppercoat ten year bottom paint

Hello all. I am halfway through a solo circumnavigation, with my yacht now in Australia and temporarily halted by the pandemic. Before I depart again (hopefully by May, 2021), I’d like to have the bottom repainted and have seen the ads and testimonials for coppercoat ten year paint. Does anyone have any personal experience with it? I’m interested in both pros and cons.

Yes, and I wouldn't wish it on an enemy. Very poor anti fouling properties, IMHO.

BTW- Coppercoat is not a paint. It is is a copper-loaded epoxy. Apples and oranges.

Personal experience for 2 years it is good. The little grow of algae and a few very small sea pocks could be removed just using a snorkel. (Catamaran wit max draft 1.3 m).


I used a brush to clean wine barrels or I very softly glided with spatula over the hull. never was pressure needed or applied.



Based on that, I would copper coat again. I did 4 layers but would next do 6 layers just to have an additional epoxi layer as osmosis protection. I learned about this additional osmosis protection a bit too late.


Don't forget to do a good activation before launching your boat again. Activation is crucial!
