Re: Free restoration helping hand

Best way to learn the properties of metal is to make your own knives: find a hobby knifemaker in your area, and you will be SO happy to not only (understand) metal, but to know you can (make your own tools!!) Take a look on google at art knives and start drooling... wouldn't it be cool to pack a knife in a leather sheath on your hip, knowing that you made all of it, including the sheath??

Negative. Metal toolboxes will scratch and dent a boat. Get a heavy duty fabric tool bag.

Re: Free restoration helping hand

solid gold advice papasail! Now that I have finally brought a go pro into my life, Its time to start collecting tools I will scout craigslist and flea markets for some tools in good standing condition. Now that you brought this up I will extend my proposal to all who read this thread. To anyone who has old tools that are cramming your boat and you are going to replace, I would be more than happy to help you out with some projects in exchange for those tools (as long as they are in working condition).

Yes papasail only 2 days of work so far on those boats that have taken me on my offer and yes it seems screw drivers tend to be a well collected item onboard. coincidently, screws tend to be harder to unscrew. Metal, saltwater, rust, hmmmm I wonder why.

Btw thank you for the basic list of tools I was actually asking that question to some of the boat owners and now that I have the basic list Its time to get to work. Thank you papasail

Damn you, autocorrect! I believe you meant "PB Blaster". Penetrating oil does not taste good first thing in the morning
