Importing a boat into South Africa

Hi,
Has anyone brought in a 2nd hand sailboat into South Africa?
What are the requirements, limitations and duties payable?
The local secondhand market is way overpriced, and there is not too much to choose from. So I'm considering buying abroad and sailing it back.
Any info would be appreciated.

Re: Importing a boat into South Africa

Importing into SAfrica anything second hand is a problem, but probably just sail on another fla g such as Namibia or Mozambique. I was going to buy a boat in Durban Marina before I quit the country for a spain last year. Nowhere to sail to from DBN except up to Richards bay N or EL south, so unless you are going intercontinental sailing, best to rent one.
