Yeah, great book. Prehaps a bit heavy for a starter book. I found 'voyage for madmen' a good primer on the golden globe race. I think all the Bernard Mottesier books are excellant. Very well written.

One of the best older books is Johnny Wrays 'South Sea Vagabond' written in a different era but very funny and easy to read, unlike many of the pre war books. Of course I could always put in a plug for my fathers book 'Snow Petrel' about our trip south to Antarctica.

You've only sailed 4X? Maybe it would be best for you just to get a small boat so you can sail 4X per week if you want.

Books for sailing motivation:

Ship Killer by Justin Scott
Maiden Voyage by Tania Aebi
Youth By Joseph Conrad
The Dove By Robin Lee Graham

Then there's Laura Dekker who sailed RTW at age 14 or so ALONE:

Yes! Exactly my intention, I shall be getting as much in as I can before this club starts then simply get a topper or wayfarer might be better then sail on my days off. Also will try and give my body and soul away to crews as an extra hand I think. Get on the water as much as possible.

In January 2012, journalist Michael Scott Moore was captured by a gang of pirates during a reporting trip in central Somalia. He would spend a total of 32 months in captivity. Here, Moore tells the story of his captivity and the day he tried to escape.
