This has happened to us a few times and we just barricaded down below closing all the dorades and vents. They leave at night if they don't fins a good place to live. If they do, like in your mast, we play heavy metal music with a deep bass at volume and they leave.

If Alfred Hitchcock shows up.... you're toast.

I had the same thing happen to the tailgate of my pick-up truck. I drove down the highway at 70 mph and the bees just hung on. I had to get a bee keeper to take them away. He was happy to collect them and gave me a jar of honey.

Agree, they probably just needed a rest. I once had a swarm invade my furled mainsail when I was motoring 10 miles of the coast of Colombia. I didn't want to risk a mass of bee stings so kept well clear. After a few hours they moved on. Poor things stuck that far out to sea.
