Registering an EU boat in US

So Iam thinking of buying an EU registered sailboat, located in Europe. I assume as I am a US citizen, I should transfer the boat into US Registry.

If I do this, does the boat loose its EU tax import status when cruising around Europe. If so, are their other options for registering the boat internationally.

No charter or commercial use anticipated...

The mere effect of changing registration does not in itself alter the " tax " status of the boat.

If the boat was sold outside the EU then that will cause a loss of vat status.

As a non EU tax resident you will be entitled to 18 months vat free period anyway.

Once you retain evidence of the boats original vat status, it's very difficult for any customs official to claim otherwise
